‘Enriched’ (Knights of Brethren, Book 4) by Jody Hedlund

About The Book
During a time when legends were born . . .

A wealthy noblewoman with a heart of gold, a wounded knight closed off to love, and the sacrifices for a chalice that can bring healing.

Lady Karina lives in a convent and expects to become a nun someday. When her wealthy father asks her to help his textile business become more successful by marrying one of the popular Knights of Brethren, Karina complies, ever the dutiful daughter.

During a royal quest to find the sacred chalice, Torvald is called home to save his family’s estate through an arranged marriage to a wealthy maiden. Although willing to do his duty, he’s vowed never to give his heart to anyone after watching his father suffer heartbreak over a woman.

As Torvald weds the kind and lovely Karina, he resists the pull of attraction to his bride. Even though Karina feels the sting of Torvald’s rejection, she chooses to love him unconditionally. As he resumes his search for the chalice and puts his life in jeopardy, Karina makes the ultimate sacrifice for him. Will he have the chance to love her in return before it’s too late?

The real story of the Holy Grail continues . . .

My Rating: 5 Stars!

‘My muscles hardened. And I attempted to clear my mind as I always did before I went into battle. I operated ruthlessly when I was singly focused on my enemy.’

Jody Hedlund has once again brought us a wonderful medieval story in this fourth contribution in her Knights of Brethren series. This is Torvald’s story, and what a story it is! I’ve been waiting for his and it did not disappoint. Torvald has vowed never to love a woman after his mother’s desertion. But he hasn’t counted on the Lady Karina, who is all goodness. They marry to add Karina’s wealth to him and save his estate.

In the midst of all this, Torvald must still join the search for the Holy Chalice in order to heal his queen. Much danger ensures as everything seems to turn in a way opposite from what is necessary. Both Torvald and Karina must confront the evil in Hardanger Forest if they want to push forward. And it will come at a great cost.

Come along as Hedlund brings the best yet in the series (my opinion) and we learn that true love sometimes sacrifices for others. I can’t wait for the next in the series!

My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. The opinion here is entirely my own.

‘Grace On The Mountain Trail’ (Call Of The Rockies, Book 8) by Misty Beller

About The Book
This epic journey is her last hope to find her lost brother—the only family she has left.

When Lola Carson’s father died, his last words spoke of a half-brother she’d never known about. And now, to claim her own inheritance and come to terms with her father’s secret life, she must find this mysterious man—whose last known whereabouts are somewhere west of the wild Rocky Mountains. After hiring family friends to accompany her on the trek, she sets out for a wilderness few white women have ever seen. She doesn’t expect the majestic peaks to captivate her so, nor the half-dead brave they find on one of the slopes.

White Owl left his village and his broken heart behind when he set out for fresh start. His newfound faith is the one anchor in his life. He’s desperate to learn more about the God he’s committed to follow and become an interpreter for the missionaries who led him to faith. But he barely starts his journey when a hunting accident nearly kills him. The woman who discovers him in the midst of his fevered delirium seems to be a gift from above.

But the more White Owl learns about Lola’s companions and her dangerous quest, the more he realizes his own calling is clear—to take her safely to her brother. The question is, will he have to sacrifice more than his heart to accomplish that goal?

From a USA Today bestselling author comes another epic journey through breathless landscapes and adventure so intense, lives will never be the same.

‘With Creator Father’s strength, he was doing his best to follow His commands. To obey the commands of the God who had shown himself both powerful and good in White Owl’s darkest moment.’

I love history, always have. Misty Beller quite excels at writing a great historical. This series has been so good. I don’t know if she has anymore books for us here in this series, but I’d be very happy if she did.

We have White Owl’s story. He appeared briefly in a previous book and it was good to see him get his own story. White Owl has accepted God as his Savior and it changes his outlook when he is confronted with someone who, shall we say, is not acting with the best of intentions.

It was also good to meet up again with some of the previous characters in the series, albeit briefly. I loved it so much I finished in less than a day! Well done!

‘The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip’ by Sara Brunsvold

About The Book
Aidyn Kelley is talented, ambitious, and ready for a more serious assignment than the fluff pieces she’s been getting as a cub reporter for the Kansas City Star. In her eagerness, she pushes too hard, earning herself the menial task of writing an obituary for an unremarkable woman who’s just entered hospice care.

But there’s more to Clara Kip than meets the eye. The spirited septuagenarian may be dying, but she’s not quite ready to cash it in yet. Never one to shy away from an assignment herself, she can see that God brought the young reporter into her life for a reason. And if it’s a story Aidyn Kelley wants, that’s just what Mrs. Kip will give her–but she’s going to have to work for it.

Debut author Sara Brunsvold delights with this emotional multigenerational story that shows that the very best life is made up of thousands of little deaths to self. You’ll want to be just like Mrs. Kip when you grow up!

My Rating:
3.5 Stars
A reporter looking for a serious assignment meets up with a dying patient in hospice. What she thinks is a terrible idea turns into a life changing assignment. How can writing and obituary for an ordinary woman help her career? Maybe it was meant for more than that.

Sometimes we should pay attention to every single person around us. Even those we think will have not one bit of beating in our lives. An unlikely friendship story that will bring some tears to your eyes.

‘How many people were going to die before this ended?’

I’ve been a fan of Dani Pettrey’s work since her first book years ago. They sit proudly on my shelves. This one is no exception to her action-packed suspense. The Coastal Guardians is a great series and I love it.

Join this amazing team as they try to stop a madman with a stolen weapon that could cause tremendous destruction if they don’t catch him first. There is a mass shooting that devastates the team, but it’s only the beginning of the havoc that falls in the wake of this diabolical maniac.

Pettrey deftly adds layers all along that serve to constantly bring more intrigue to the reader. The personal stories of those involved are great to watch as well. They struggle with real problems just like the rest of us, and they’ve allowed God into their lives and have His help with those problems. We also get a great secondary story as well as see old friends making an appearance. Very well done!

Mary Connealy has been a favorite of mine for many years. Her cowboy comedies are hilarious and I know I am in for a great good time when I read one of her books. This series is really good. An evil stepfather sells his wife’s daughters to men who really are creepy just so he can gain complete control over their dead father’s business and fortune. Only these girls, educated and super smart, are having none of it! Here is Michelle’s story and it’s a good one, too! The first daughter is married, then Michelle marries Zane, but the bad guys keep coming. Tune in to find out. It’s good! I promise.

‘Walking In Tall Weeds’ by Robin W. Pearson

About The Book
From award-winning author Robin W. Pearson comes a new Southern family drama about one family who discovers their history is only skin-deep and that God’s love is the only family tie that binds.

Paulette and Fred Baldwin find themselves wading through a new season of life in Hickory Grove, North Carolina. McKinley makes it no secret that he doesn’t intend to follow in his father’s footsteps at George & Company Fine Furnishings or otherwise. But all her striving leaves Fred on the outside looking in.

Paulette suspects McKinley and Fred are hiding something that could change the whole family. Soon, she’s facing a whirlwind she never saw coming, and the three of them must dig deep to confront the truth. ‘Prayin’ is where we admit we ain’t the lord of our own lives.’

Where do I begin to leave a review adequate enough to convey my thoughts on what a powerful story this was? Pepper Basham is always good; I’ve never read a bad book by her, or even a mediocre one. But this. This wonderful story of the Appalachian people in the time period immediately after the Great War is so full of grace, forgiveness, and the mercies of God, that I found myself crying through parts of it, gasping at others, laughing some, too.

The story takes place in Maple Springs where Basham set another book earlier and this one features some of the same folks but can totally be read as a stand alone. It was so good to read how these folks lived, their way of life, their superstitions and love. There were times the reading hurt, because people don’t always do the right thing, but Basham handles it so well.

The hero of this story, Jebediah McAdams, is perfect. I totally fell in love with his sweet heart and concern for others. And I loved his ‘itchin’ lips’. You’ll have to read the story to get that one. I promise you’ll like it, too. Jeb is totally unprepared for the English woman who literally falls into his arms when she runs away from home to escape an arranged marriage. And Cora is determined to be a help to these precious people as ‘Nurse Woman’. Having served at the Front during the Great War, she is sure she can provide help to them. IF she can get these backward and leery folk to trust her.

Set in a simpler time in a beautiful place, this story will stay with you long after you read the last word. It will be a treasure for any keeper shelf. I know it will mine. Basham’s descriptions of the mountains will have you longing to see them for yourself. This was a powerfully moving book and I adored every minute. It’s the kind of book that, when you read the last word, you want to flip to the beginning and start over again. It’s that good. Well done!

My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review and the opinion expressed here is entirely my own.
