Book Review: ‘Come Back To Me’ (Waters of Time) by Jody Hedlund

About The Book

The ultimate cure that could heal any disease? Crazy.

That’s exactly what research scientist Marian Creighton has always believed about her father’s quest, even if it does stem from a desire to save her sister Ellen from the genetic disease that stole their mother from them. But when her father falls into a coma after drinking a vial of holy water believed to contain traces of residue from the Tree of Life, Marian must question all of her assumptions. He’s left behind tantalizing clues that suggest he’s crossed back in time. Insane. Until Marian tests his theories and finds herself in the Middle Ages during a dangerous peasant uprising.

William Durham, a valiant knight comes to Marian’s rescue and offers her protection . . . as his wife. The longer Marian stays in the past, the more she cares about William. Can she ever find her father and make it back to the present to heal her sister? And when the time comes to leave, will she want to?

Bestselling author Jody Hedlund is your guide down the twisting waters of time to a volatile era of superstition, revolts, and chivalry in this suspenseful story.

About Jody Hedlund
Jody Hedlund is the author of over thirty historicals for both adults and teens and is the winner of numerous awards including the Christy, Carol, and Christian Book Award.

Jody lives in central Michigan with her husband, five busy children, and five spoiled cats. Although Jody prefers to experience daring and dangerous adventures through her characters rather than in real life, she’s learned that a calm existence is simply not meant to be (at least in this phase of her life!).

When she’s not penning another of her page-turning stories, she loves to spend her time reading, especially when it also involves consuming coffee and chocolate.
My Rating: 5 Stars!

‘What had she gotten herself into?’

I have been a fan of Jody Hedlund’s since her first book, which still sits on my shelves. So, of course, I want to read everything she writes. However, as a rule, I don’t much care for time travel. There are a very few authors who have done it well that I’ve read. I love Hedlund’s work, so I decided that I wanted to read her take on time travel. Boy, was I in for a surprise!

Hedlund’s take on time travel is so unique that I was immediately intrigued and totally invested in the story. Imagine, if you will, that drinking a vial of holy water from the fourteenth century could cure a person in the present day. I think one would agree that it is a unique premise. Imagine again, finding that vial and barely putting your lips to it and being transported to another time? What had she gotten herself into?’

rted back to 1381 England. Well, that did it for me. I love the medieval setting and Hedlund has proven more than once that she does this genre well indeed.

Will Durham, a most valiant knight, rescues Marian from a beating and offers her protection as his wife. His wife! Wait a minute! The ramifications of this particular situation could be long reaching and possibly very uncomfortable. But Marian goes along with it, hoping that she an get back to the present day with the vials of holy water needed to heal her father, who is in a coma, and her sister, who has a genetic disease. Then, on top of everything else, England is in the midst of a dangerous peasant uprising. (Hedlund does her research well and includes actual historical events in all her books.) Now, about Will Durham. What a powerful and totally swoon worthy hero this dude is. His character is a sight to behold. A true and valiant, most chivalrous knight. And soon Marian is wondering if she really wants to go back to the present day.

I was completely captivated by this book. I have always enjoyed Hedlund’s books and she has proven she is incredibly good at switching genres effortlessly. Although I must admit, I am completely partial to her medieval settings. She is tops there! I cannot WAIT for the second in this series! I can highly recommend this one.
