Book Review: ‘Four Dreams of You’ by Sondra Kraak

About The Book:

Unfulfilled dreams have left Grace Thomas vowing not to let her imagination roam wild again. Resigning herself to the goal of owning a dress shop, she accepts a position as a housekeeper at Monaghan Lumber Camp in order to earn funds. The plan is simple, easy, and safe. But Torin Monaghan is not. The reclusive brother who seems indifferent to her presence is ironically the one stirring up her imagination.

Torin Monaghan will not be deterred from his passion to preserve the beauty of nature. Even if it appears as if he’s going against his family. Even if the quirky and wistful seamstress invading his space is proving a distraction. To his frustration, Grace Thomas is not easily dismissed, and neither are the ways she’s opening his eyes to a different sort of beauty.

When past threats bring new trouble to Pine Creek, Torin and Grace must become vulnerable—to each other and their community—and through risk, discover that reality is more fulfilling than their dreams.

About Sondra Kraak

A native of Washington State, Sondra Kraak grew up playing in the rain, hammering Chopin at the piano, and running up and down the basketball court. After attending Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, she moved to North Carolina to work for a small non-profit ministry. It was in the backroom of that office, amidst the clamor of copy machines and printers, that love blossomed. She married her mountain man in 2004, and they spent the first season of their marriage in New England where Sondra attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Now settled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, she works part-time at her church doing worship ministry. Life at home with her husband and children is full of Yahtzee, backyard football and baseball, reading parties, activities involving food, and magically multiplying loads of laundry. She writes historical romance set in the beautiful Pacific Northwest through which her passion and delight is to provide readers with stories that not only entertain but nourish the soul.

Her debut novel, One Plus One Equals Trouble, was a previous ACFW Genesis semi-finalist and the winner of the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference Foundation Women’s Fiction Award.

My Rating: 4 Stars!

‘God doesn’t abandon his own. He doesn’t tire of us or grow weary with us. He goes with us into the valleys, and he camps with us on the mountain.’

Sondra Kraak has done her usual good job with this book, 4th in the Love That Counts series. Grace and Torin’s story has certainly touched my heart. Grace has determined in her heart that her dreams will not be fulfilled, that she doesn’t have what it takes for anyone to love her. Torin doesn’t want to love anyone because he has big plans for his life. But guess what? God’s plans will always trump ours. What follows is a precious story of hope being found where none was expected and love filling up all the empty places. Torin’s heart was absolutely wonderful! I loved his love for God. Recommended.

*My thanks to the author for a preview copy of this book. The opinion stated here is entirely my own.
